February marks World Interfaith Harmony Week: an annual week-long event that brings together people of all faiths to promote peace, harmony and tolerance for the beliefs of others.
This event is a great opportunity to celebrate peaceful coexistence in a world where there often enough appears to be conflict and lack of common understanding and respect between people of different faiths and beliefs.
Harmony between faiths is core to Al-Khair Foundation, as we are proud to provide aid to disadvantaged and vulnerable people irrespective of race and religion. Our international relief projects and work within the UK is a reflection of our mutual respect for various faith groups.
We’ve been partnering with multi-faith-based organisations and religious leaders to deliver our 2016 winter campaign, #LetsWarmBritain, to the homeless of the UK. Our distribution points include churches, homeless shelters and hostels and reach out to people of all beliefs and faiths. With the help of our partners, we’ve been providing winter essentials, such as hats, scarves, gloves and sleeping bags, as well as hot food, to help them through the cold winter months.

The recent flooding in North West England and Scotland has also allowed us to collaborate with various places of worship and religious leaders to provide support and relief to all communities.
Internationally, we are also committed to serving people of all communities and do not discriminate. During the horrific 2015 earthquake in Nepal, we provided vital aid to the population, which mainly consists of Hindus. We also supported over 10,000 affected people by providing food, water, medicine and shelter to some of the most badly affected districts that had over 90% destruction.
World Interfaith Harmony Week is an important way to acknowledge and celebrate the faith of others and to respect their various differences.
Peaceful coexistence is reliant upon a common understanding among people, and by drawing upon our strengths and uniting as one, we can eliminate hate and discrimination.
Let us remember that the things that unite us are much more than the things that divide us.
Let us strive to plant the seeds of tolerance and respect for other faiths within our communities.
