A CALL TO ACTION FOR YOUR SCHOOL TO JOIN OUR SPONSORED PLAYGROUND WALK

In many parts of the world, the basic necessity of safe and clean water remains a luxury, impacting the lives of millions, especially vulnerable children in impoverished communities. The global water crisis is not just a shortage; it's a dire threat to the health and future of countless children. The Small Steps Big Difference project sheds light on the alarming reality of the shortage of safe water, the arduous journeys children undertake daily, and the devastating consequences they face. Children, often as young as five, walk for miles every day to collect water for their families. This not only robs them of precious time for education and play but exposes them to hazardous conditions and potential dangers. Lack of safe water results in waterborne diseases, causing widespread illness. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.5 million children under the age of five die each year due to water-related illnesses.

Children in impoverished regions face the harsh reality of growing up too soon, burdened with the responsibility of securing water for survival.

On average, children walk 3.7 miles (6 kilometres) daily to fetch water, carrying heavy containers that often weigh more than the children themselves.

Every day, the water crisis claims the lives of over 800 children globally, a heartbreaking toll that continues to rise

MORE THAN 155 MILLION CHILDREN HAVE POOR ACCESS TO WATER GLOBALLY

Children in more than 80 countries live in areas with high or extremely high water vulnerability. Eastern and Southern Africa has the highest proportion of children living in such areas, with more than half of children – 58 per cent – facing difficulty accessing sufficient water every day. It is followed by West and Central Africa (31 per cent), South Asia (25 per cent), and the Middle East (23 per cent). South Asia is home to the largest number of children living in areas of high or extremely high water vulnerability – more than 155 million children

Al Khair Foundation's Water For Life initiatives are dedicated to guaranteeing that every child can avail sustainable and hygienic water services. The primary objective is to gather resources and pinpoint regions with the highest and most pressing demand for secure, durable, and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities. Our field teams are subsequently assigned to construct both traditional water wells and advanced deep bore wells to address these critical needs.

JOIN OUR SCHOOLS SPONSORED PLAYGROUND WALK

We believe in eradicating water poverty by ensuring every child has access to clean water. AKF Future Leaders partners with UK schools for the "Small Steps Big Difference" fundraising campaign which supports children in developing countries through the provision of water wells in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Kenya.

By taking part in the "Small Steps Big Difference” sponsored walk around the playground, your school and pupils can benefit by gaining a global perspective, engaging with the cause, understanding challenges faced by peers in the developing world, and transforming lives through fundraising efforts. It simple, ask class teachers to provide a sponsorship form to each pupil, the parent letter is on the back of the sponsorship form, the children then get sponsored by family and friends and walk as many sponsored laps as they can around the playground
