International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) marks a crucial event in working to end a dangerous age-old procedure inflicted on women across the world. This deep-rooted cultural practice is a severe violation of the rights of girls and women and often leads to serious health complications, psychological traumas, and even death.
To stand up against FGM, we spoke to Mayameen Meftahi, a campaigner and advocate against FGM and other forms of violence and oppression against women. She explained misconceptions surrounding the topic and how we can eradicate this dangerous practice within our local and wider community.
