Ramadan Food Pack

Our Ramadan food packs contain a month’s supply of basic foodstuffs, which are high in nutrition. Often they’re sufficient to feed a family of up to five. In previous years, AKF’s food pack distribution fed 1,000 street children in Bangladesh, and thousands of families in Gaza and Nairobi. Available in

Qurbani Farms

Every year at AKF, we carry out Qurbani sacrifices on behalf of generous donors, at our own AKF farms. The sacrificial meat goes towards feeding some of the poorest families all over the developing world. Raising our own livestock ensures that we can keep Qurbani prices low during Eid ul-Adha. This increases the value of every donation and allows us to distribute to more people. In 2014, the beneficiaries of our Qurbani meat distribution exceeded 160,000 people in Pakistan alone. Donation

Eid Gift Packs

AKF distributes Eid gift packs to poor and disadvantaged people in the following countries: India, Syria, Somaliland, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Afghanistan, and Nepal. In the event that Muslim communities in parts of the world are affected by a disaster around the Eid period, we also distribute to them. We do this twice a year every year during Eid ul-Fitr and Ed ul-Adha. The contents of our gift packs vary according to cultural context but they generally include: clothes, foodstuffs, and children’s gifts.

Aqeeqah

in Islam, Aqeeqah is the tradition of sacrificing livestock in thanks for the birth of a child, and donating the meat to the poor. AKF carries out Aqeeqah on behalf of donors all year round. And because we run our own farms, the price of livestock is always reasonable. If you’d like to carry out Aqeeqah, please contact us.

Zakat

In Islam, Zakat is charity paid to the poor, which is obligatory upon every Muslim whose wealth exceeds a set minimum called the ‘Nisab.’ Zakat is 2.5% of this wealth and there are eight types of people to which Zakat can be given – the poor, the needy, the wayfarer, those employed to administer Zakat funds, those whose hearts have been reconciled to Islam, those in bondage, those in debt and in the cause of Allah (swt). At AKF, accountability matters to us, and we know the importance of adhering to the rules of Zakat. We are careful that the zakat we receive is distributed only to beneficiaries who are eligible. Sadaqah

Sadaqah is the Islamic concept of voluntary charity. It is a gift, however big or small, given out of compassion, love, friendship or generosity. At AKF, the Sadaqah we receive goes into our general donations budget. It is distributed to beneficiaries (in kind,) based on a needs assessment. Your Sadaqah can reach a disabled child in the form of a wheelchair, or a bread-winning widow in the form of a sewing machine. If you’d like to donate Sadaqah, please contact us.

Fidya and Kaffara

Fidya and Kaffara is the compensation Muslims pay for not keeping fast in the month of Ramadan. Fidya relates to people who have a valid reason (such as illness, pregnancy or old-age), and involves paying to feed another person for one day. The cost may vary from year to year, but is generally around £6. Kaffara is payable by people who have broken their fast knowingly and intentionally by eating, drinking etc. during Ramadan without a valid reason. To make up for it, the person must either fast for 60 days, or pay to have 60 people fed. This amounts to around £360 for each fast that is missed. To pay your fidya or kaffara, please contact us.

Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana)

Paid at the end of Ramadan, Zakat al-fitr is compulsory on every Muslim as a way of thanks that they were able to complete the month of fasting. It is important that Zakat al-fitr reaches the poor in time for Eid, so that they can celebrate the festival. When donating your Zakat al-fitr, please do so in advance.

Community

At AKF, our community projects range from environmental projects such as providing lighting to Kenyan villages, to religious project such as renovating or building mosques in areas that have been affected by disasters. We aim to cater our projects to the seasonal and religious needs of specific communities. For the populace of villages and rural towns, the local mosque isn’t just a place of worship – it’s a community centre where people gather, learn and are kept informed about local news. It is often through mosques and masjids that NGOs are able to distribute information and dispense vaccinations, water and food. Our UK Mosque and Community engagement services project is underway in the UK to re-establish mosques as dynamic and collaborative community hubs. Donation
