“And make not your own hands contribute to (your) own destruction (harm)???
Qur’an (2:195)
.
During the holy month of Ramadan we are encouraged to reflect on how fortunate we are – for our job, home, family, friends and even our health. Looking after our health is essential during Ramadan, as fasting long hours in the hot weather can be extremely straining. Maintaining a healthy diet and eating all of the right foods is crucial for our bodies at a time where it has to adjust so rapidly. We often make the mistake of over indulging during Ramadan, from munching on pakoras to fried chicken and so much more! We overeat, filling our stomachs with large quantities of unhealthy foods, which inevitably result in discomfort and often digestion problems.
.
Allah (SWT) commands Muslims in the second chapter of the Qur’an that we should refrain from bringing harm upon ourselves whether it is mentally or physically. This includes being mindful of what we feed our bodies with and eating in moderation only those foods that are beneficial to our health. We are fortunate to have access to healthy and nutritious food, exercise facilities and medical care to help us stay in good health. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for many of our brothers and sisters around the world living in extreme poverty and with lack of access to adequate healthcare, this leaves them in more of a vulnerable position.
.
Al-Khair Foundation is committed to developing long-term health programmes which provide the most vulnerable people and communities with the urgent life-saving and life-changing support that they need. Some of our projects include, a maternal ward in Al-Hijaz hospital, medical units and ambulances across Pakistan; mobility aid distribution, such as wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs and mobility tricycles to the physically impaired; hospital support in Gaza through providing medical equipment, including beds, ultrasounds and an ENT Treatment Unit; and our Maternal Health Programme targeting pregnancy and childbirth-related mortality in Kenya through founding the first maternity clinic at Kambioos Refugee Camp in Dadaab.
.
This Ramadan, why not provide those in need with urgent healthcare to help them lead a better quality of life by supporting our Health programme?
