Al-Khair Foundation Malaysia distributed food packs and staple items to over 400 Rohingya refugees on the 10th January in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur alongside their partners Uthman Ibn Affan Trust Limited and Humanity Heroes Malaysia.
The food distribution included a month’s supply of everyday essentials such as rice, sugar, salt and coffee and was welcomed by benefices.
Malaysia currently hosts one of the largest urban refugee populations in the world, with an increasing number of 150,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers. However, due to Malaysian law and legislation, refugees and asylum seekers are unable to support themselves through legal work, causing huge financial strains on families.
Al-Khair Foundation, therefore, aims to provide basic relief to Rohingya families by supplying food packs and staple items. As well as providing aid to the refugees, Al-Khair Foundation aim to build links with the broader Rohingya Muslim community to better understand their needs and try to help them in seeking better opportunities for themselves.
