“The reward of goodness is nothing but goodness??? Qur’an (55:60)
.
As the blessed month of Ramadan comes to an end and a full new moon shines above us, we gather with family and friends to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr. Amongst a room full of happy faces, we share embraces, jokes and heartfelt greetings with our loved ones. We offer each other delicious food and gifts. We look around with excited eyes and full hearts at our surroundings, but somewhere in a place not so bright, there are people whose Eid is just another day of struggling to get by to the next day. Sadly, there isn’t a pile of gifts waiting to be opened, there isn’t a table full of sweets to be devoured and for many, there isn’t even a family to embrace.
So as we celebrate this blessed day, let us make it extra special by making it memorable for those in need. Our Eid Gift Pack project distributes gift packs to disadvantaged people in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Somaliand, Kenya and Gaza, as well as Afghanistan through our partners. Our gift packs cost only £25 and enable people from impoverished backgrounds or vulnerable communities fleeing natural disasters or persecution to experience a sense of joy and normality in incredibly testing circumstances. The contents of our gift packs are often tailored to specific cultural contexts and generally include clothes, food and children’s gifts. Altogether, 19,488 Eid gift packs have been distributed by Al-Khair Foundation over the last 4 years.
Together, we can fill our Eid day celebrations with goodness by bringing a smile to a child’s face in the developing world, and as the Qur’an says: the reward for goodness is nothing but goodness!
